Troubleshooting Communications: eGauge and BMU

The eGauge communicates with the Blue Ion Battery Management Unit (BMU) over the customer's Local Area Network (LAN) via a router. This is true whether the internet exists at the site or not. This document is intended as an overview specifically of connecting the eGauge and the Blue Ion cabinet to a LAN. As there are many LAN devices, settings and configurations, Blue Planet Energy cannot advise on the specifics of your Local Area Network.

A router is a necessary device which provides IP Addresses for both the eGauge and the Blue Ion cabinet and therefore facilitates communication between the two. In a sense, the router is what creates the LAN. In some system designs, there may also be a switch or bridge between devices as well. If this terminology is unfamiliar, you may need to involve a network professional.

If you are having issues with the eGauge not showing battery data, please download the PDF to troubleshoot the monitoring.
